Hello Hello!

I’m glad you’re here! Thank you for trusting me with your In-Home photography session! It isn’t always easy choosing a stranger to get an intimate view of your life!

Tips for all in-home sessions

Home: You hired me to come to you and one of the reasons why is it seemed easier than getting everyone in the car, but, maybe now you’re thinking “great, now I have to clean my house!” Well, yes & no. Yes, you'll need to tidy what you can and make the beds in the rooms we’ll likely be in, running the vacuum is a plus. No, you don’t have to deep clean, honest, you don’t. What really shows up in the photos are you and the light we’re shooting in! A quick tip is grab an empty laundry basket and throw all the things sitting around like books, charging cords, wallets, keys, things you can’t lose, but don’t necessarily have their own home, put them in the basket, and just put the basket in a closet.

In-Home Lifestyle Family

“Keep it real, but make it pretty” is my motto to family sessions.

You want your family photographed in a way that is true to who you are but pretty enough to show everyone and make an album for your coffee table with it! I have a few tips below to help you achieve the session you’re wanting.

Session Time: Usually these sessions start around 10am. That time of morning fills the house with enough light, but not harsh light, and most importantly, children are in agreeable moods that time of day and when the session is over, they can look forward to lunch. I am not opposed to bribing, and offering one of their favorite lunches is always a plus! My family sessions last about an hour, sometimes a little more, usually, a little less. Within that hour we are playing, posing, moving, and bribing, all around the house to get the best for your session.

Children: Did I mention I’m ok if you bribe your kids? Ha! I am, because it works, especially the littler ones. They have no idea how long 10 minutes is or an hour, so I think offering them clean snacks (like pretzels, goldfish, cheese) throughout the session really holds them over and keeps them happy. Lollipops and ice-cream tend to better at the end.

The biggest tip here is for parents to stay RELAXED. I know you have dreams of big happy smiles, but we can’t force it and if we did, to be honest, it looks coerced and out of place. If your child is feeling a need to be cuddled and shy, let’s go with it. We’re capturing your family as it is, as honest as we can.

Tell them about the session and what to expect and get them excited about why they have on nice clothes and what toys they can show me or books you can read them during the session. If they feel they have something to contribute, they stay interested.

Newborn Photography by Five Pence Photography in Nashville Tennessee

In-Home Lifestyle Newborn

These sweet blissed out (also, sort of stressed out!) days go by in a blur. Thank you for trusting me with these precious moments.

House Prep: I know you have a ton to do just having a newborn so please don’t stress about the house. If you don’t manage to get a tidy in before I come over, we can pick up the area as I go. I will probably request blinds and curtains to be opened as much as possible as we use the room.

What About Baby: Newborns have such a sweetness to them. I don’t need your baby to be asleep or awake - she’s the boss and we work with the mood she’s in. If you are breast-feeding please consider having your portrait taken to document this time. Your baby should wear snug clothing like a onesie or sleeper. Big graphics and logos wont particularly photograph well, so try to go with small prints or solids. If you have swaddles or quilts you would like your baby photographed in or on, let me know and we can work it in to the session.

Siblings: The tips above for for children apply here as well! Let the kids know I’m coming and get them excited about helping me. I will most likely start the session with them while they are most excited.

Mom & Dad: You might be a little nervous to start too and that’s normal! Give it a minute and it will feel easier. The best thing to do is try to relax through it. You will have a lot of time to just hold baby &/or other children, each other and being told not to look at me -ha! It’s true, I don’t want you to look at me (unless I ask).

Pets: Of course they’re invited! I love it when they show up in the photos.

Maternity and Milestone Sessions are usually booked in with the Newborn session. Contact me if you’d like to add them.
